Udyam Registration, introduced by the Ministry of MSME in July 2020, is a free, fully online, paperless process for registering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India, replacing the earlier Udyog Aadhaar system. It provides a unique 16-digit Udyam Registration Number (URN) and an e-certificate, integrating seamlessly with PAN and GST databases for verification. MSMEs are classified based on investment and turnover: Micro (≤ ₹1 crore/≤ ₹5 crore), Small (≤ ₹10 crore/≤ ₹50 crore), and Medium (≤ ₹50 crore/≤ ₹250 crore). Registration requires minimal documentation—primarily Aadhaar, PAN, and business details—on a self-declaration basis. Benefits include eligibility for government schemes, collateral-free loans, protection against delayed payments, and preference in government tenders.
