Labour Contractor License

Rs 5000

A Labour Contractor License in India is a mandatory legal authorization under the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970, required for any individual or firm employing 20 or more contract workers or supplying manpower to other businesses. Both contractors and principal employers must comply. To apply, one must register on the respective state’s labour department portal, fill Form IV, upload documents (ID proof, agreement with employer, worker details, address proof, applicable registrations like GST/Shops Act), and pay the required license fee and a refundable security deposit of ₹90 per worker. The license, typically valid for one year, must be renewed annually. Fees vary by state, and failure to comply can result in fines, contract cancellations, or legal action. As labour laws also fall under state jurisdiction, rules and processes may differ, so checking the relevant state labour website is essential.
